Soy vs Paraffin Wax
The kind of wax I decided to use was my first step to candle making.
There are various types of waxes, mainly soy wax, beeswax, paraffin wax and gel wax. Some waxes are blends of more than one type, and many of these blends also have added coconut wax. Given their different pros and cons, candle makers must choose which best suits their needs or values. I chose soy wax because it is the most eco-friendly wax and avoids any issues of animal cruelty (many beeswaxes are not ethically produced - given this information and the current bee crisis I chose to avoid this one, though it is more sustainable than paraffin and gel).
Paraffin is the cheapest and most utilized kind of wax. Most stores carry paraffin wax candles. Usually, the type of wax will be specified on the candle. If it is not, it is most probably made of paraffin wax. Here is why I chose soy wax, and why you should avoid paraffin wax at all cost.
